Two people with the same diagnosis may experience it very differently and need completely different remedies. One person might have a dry, hacking cough or sneezing spells. Homeopathy is based on the principle of Similia Similibus Curentur. My Own Story
My experience with hay fever is personal. In 2002, I moved from my hometown in India to study homeopathic medicine. In this new climate, I began experiencing hay fever symptoms. Mornings started with bouts of sneezing lasting 10 to 15 minutes, followed by a runny nose. My symptoms worsened with any change in temperature. My mother also suffered from similar allergies and was prescribed an antihistamine daily, which only provided temporary relief and led to unwanted side effects and dependency.
After analysing my acute symptoms and my sensitivity to cold, I was prescribed Hepar Sulph. The tiny globules stopped my sneezing and runny nose. Once I managed these acute symptoms, I pursued a constitutional remedy. After a thorough evaluation, I took Natrum Mur, sourced from common salt, in various doses and intervals. I found myself free from allergic rhinitis symptoms.
I stayed without any hay fever trouble or need of any remedy for the next 7 years. I encountered it two more times: first in 2009 when I moved to France, and again in 2011 when I moved to Hong Kong. Both episodes were much milder and were resolved with a few doses of my previous remedies. Since then, I have not needed any further treatment for hay fever, even after travelling extensively across Asia, Europe, and the USA.
My mother also followed homeopathic treatment and was able to wean off daily antihistamines. She has remained free of allergic rhinitis to this day. Although we shared the same diagnosis, we needed different remedies. Allium Cepa and Gelsemium were the homeopathic remedies that helped her, demonstrating how beautifully homeopathy values individualization.
